Parties were always a bummer for Matthew and this one was no exception, though most times it helped when one could actually get to the party in the first place. Unfortunately, there was a mix-up in the planning department when it came to invitations. Oh sure, Matthew got an invitation all right, but it was missing one vital piece of information, the one thing that was missing that ruined his feeling of euphoria at actually being remembered for once: the directions to the party was missing. Thus, poor Matthew had no idea where the party was, much less how to get there.

Someone knocked lightly on my office door, making me jump and sending my pen flying, landing on the white tiled floor to roll goodness knows where into the darkness. I quickly gathered my papers into a pile and placed them in my desk drawer, away from unwelcome eyes, before standing to go open the door. A young man in uniform, a common sight in the base, peered through the door window. I opened it.
